The View from the Pantry

I spent six and a half years working in Beijing. One of my jobs was at an internet company on the top floor of an office building in Sanyuanqiao. I often stood by the window in the pantry, watching the sunset and wondering: should I go home?

For me, the nights waiting in my rented room were often just as uneventful—sometimes even lonely. As evening slowly turned into night, I would often find myself caught in this strange, familiar thought. These are the views I saw from the pantry window.
