For many people, life in Beijing feels compressed—faster in pace, tighter in space, and heavier in cost. Moments of emotional release are scarce.

Whenever the sky turned vividly colored, phones appeared almost in unison. A sunset became a shared pressure valve: accidental, temporary, and gentle.
